Pawnee County Release Records
A release from the Pawnee County Jail is a recorded movement, not just a name vanishing from a screen. The sheriff may record release to the community on bond, a court order, dismissal, or completion of a term. The same person might instead be transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections, another county, a hospital, the U.S. Marshals Service, or another authority. Each movement ends one local jail stay, but only some are community releases. The release type and destination are therefore core facts.
The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office and the committing court hold different parts of the answer. The sheriff’s booking and release entry shows when physical custody began and ended, along with the movement code or destination if recorded. The Pawnee County District Court case shows the legal act behind that movement, such as bond, dismissal, sentence, commitment, or discharge. A careful check uses both. If the person moved into KDOC custody, KASPER becomes the next source. A person listed there as “Inmate” left the county jail but did not leave custody.
Pawnee County Release Types
Release terms often describe both a legal event and the next custody status. “Bond” means the court allowed release under set terms, but the criminal case remains open. “Time served” means the court credited enough custody toward the sentence. A transfer means the person changed custodians. Parole and postrelease supervision mean prison confinement ended while KDOC control continued. The exact sheriff entry, court order, or KDOC record controls in any one case.
| Recorded event | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court release | County jail custody may end under court terms | Sheriff transaction and court register |
| Dismissal or acquittal | That case no longer supports custody, though another hold may | Court order plus jail destination |
| Time served or completion | The local jail term is satisfied | Sentence entry and release timestamp |
| KDOC transfer | County custody ends but state custody begins | KASPER status and KDOC record |
| Parole or postrelease | Prison confinement ends under state supervision | KASPER and KDOC Parole Services |
| Other-agency hold | Another custodian may take control | Destination field and receiving agency |
- Discharge
- The applicable custody or supervision episode has ended. Read the certificate or record for its exact scope.
- Detainer
- A request or basis for another authority to hold or receive a person.
- Expungement
- A court process that restricts disclosure of an eligible record after statutory terms are met.
Pawnee County Release Record Fields
A narrow record request should identify one custody episode. That helps distinguish an initial booking from a later probation revocation or transfer. Ask for fields as they exist in the jail system instead of asking staff to write a new account. Identity should be checked with a booking number, case number, and the correct dates or facility. A photograph alone is a weak match and does not prove the final court result.
| Field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Name and booking identifier | Which jail episode the entry concerns |
| Admission date and time | When Pawnee County custody began |
| Committing agency and case | The agency and legal file tied to custody |
| Charge at booking | The recorded allegation, not the final disposition |
| Bond entry | Type, amount, and posting time if recorded |
| Departure date and time | When the jail’s physical custody ended |
| Release authority or reason | Bond, order, completion, transfer, or another recorded basis |
| Destination or receiving agency | Community release versus continued custody elsewhere |
| Hold disposition | What happened to another agency’s hold |
| Correction notation | Whether staff later amended the entry |
No official Pawnee County web retention period was found. VINE is an event and alert service, not a permanent archive. Court records may remain available longer, subject to remote-access rules, sealing, protection, and expungement. That is why a saved case number and a precise records request are more useful than relying on a transient search result.
Request Pawnee County Release Records
The official county open-records form is the direct route to an existing Pawnee County Jail transaction. Send it to the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office at 116 W. 8th St., Larned, KS 67550, or call 620-285-2211 to confirm routing. Ask for the jail-register, booking, and release or transfer entry. Include the name or identifier, an approximate booking date, and a focused list of fields.
- Identify one person and one custody episode. Give a booking or case number when known.
- Ask for existing admission, departure, release authority, destination, receiving agency, and hold fields.
- Request electronic copies when available. Ask for a cost estimate before work begins.
- If any part is withheld, request the cited statutory basis and all segregable public portions.
- Match the response to the Pawnee court register and any later KDOC record.
K.S.A. 45-218 requires agency action as soon as possible and by the end of the third business day. Action can be production, denial, or a written explanation of delay and expected availability. It is not a promise that every record will arrive in three days. Kansas law permits actual or reasonable charges and advance payment, but no verified Pawnee release-record or booking-photo fee schedule was found. A requester should obtain an itemized estimate rather than import a price from another county.
Note: A phone statement that someone is “not here” does not show whether the person entered the community or moved to another custodian.
Pawnee Release Orders Need Two Sources
Pawnee County belongs to the 24th Judicial District. Begin with the Kansas District Court Records guide, then choose the current public portal or contact the Pawnee clerk at 620-285-6937. Read the case in time order. Bond entries, dismissal, judgment, jail credit, probation, revocation, commitment, satisfaction, and discharge can explain why release was authorized. The sheriff transaction still proves the time physical custody ended and whether another hold changed the result.
The official court guide shows where Kansas district records are accessed.
View the Kansas District Court Records guide at its source.
Use that official path because an old portal address may fail, and a remotely absent result can reflect filters, conversion, Rule 22 limits, sealing, or expungement.
A dismissal in one case does not clear a second case, a local warrant, a KDOC detainer, or federal process. Phrase the result narrowly: released on that case, unless the jail record confirms that all custody ended. Court and jail records answer linked but distinct questions.
Pawnee County Bond Release Checks
The county Jail Information page links a surety-company directory for the six-county judicial district. The directory was revised January 8, 2020. It is not a current bond schedule, proof that a listed company remains authorized, or evidence that bond was posted in one case. Confirm the bond order with the clerk and the departure with the jail. A posted bond can end the immediate Pawnee County jail episode while conditions and the court case continue.
When timing matters, ask for the bond-posting timestamp, release timestamp, and any hold disposition as separate fields. Processing can occur after the court grants bond. Another agency’s detainer may also prevent community release. This distinction keeps a court permission from being mistaken for the moment the person left the jail.
Pawnee Jail Counts Aren’t Releases
The official sheriff page reports a 16-bed jail, an average population of about 11, and occasions when the count reached 20. These numbers describe capacity and occupancy. They are not annual booking totals or named Pawnee County release records. Weekly local summaries sometimes give aggregate booking and release counts, but those short items often omit the identity, reason, and destination needed to confirm one person.
An aggregate count can corroborate that release activity occurred during a week. It cannot establish who left, at what time, or under what authority. Request the person-level transaction instead.
Find Pawnee County Released Inmates
Start with the last known custodian, not a broad name result. Pawnee County Jail, Larned State Correctional Facility, a federal contract bed, and immigration custody use different records. There is no official Pawnee Kansas roster to search first. For a county jail stay, the sheriff transaction plus the Pawnee District Court case is the strongest pair. For KDOC custody, use KASPER and the proper KDOC office. Federal and ICE sources apply only when the record shows that link.
- Call the Pawnee County Jail and ask if the person remains physically held. If not, ask release versus transfer, time, authority, and destination.
- File a focused KORA request for the release or transfer entry and match it to the Pawnee court chronology.
- If the destination was KDOC, search KASPER by KDOC number or exact name and read the status literally.
- Use VINE only for a matched participating county-jail record. Verify each alert with the reporting jail.
- Contact the correct parole or community-corrections office if supervision followed release.
- Use BOP, USMS, or ICE tools only when the custody history supports that system.
KASPER Pawnee Release Status Search
KASPER, the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, is the state source for KDOC custody and supervision. It is not a full arrest database. A person who bonded out of Pawnee County Jail or completed a short local term may never appear. Start at the KASPER disclaimer and search entry. Search by KDOC number when possible, or use an exact name and the alias option.
| Search field | Use |
|---|---|
| KDOC or KBI number | Strong identifier when known |
| Name and alias | Exact-name search with alternate names |
| Conviction county | Pawnee case filter, not current residence |
| Facility | Current or recorded KDOC facility filter |
| Supervision type | Inmate, Parole, Community Corr., Discharged, Absconder, and other statuses |
| Photo controls | Optional image display, with date and identity cautions |
The official KASPER screen displays the state search fields used to narrow a Pawnee County release lookup.
Open the official KASPER offender search.
The screenshot helps locate filters, but the live result and its working-day update warning should control.
Read status before dates. “Inmate” means current KDOC custody. “Parole” means prison release with supervision still active. “Discharged” is the closest search status to an ended state episode, but the full record or discharge certificate defines its scope. KASPER cannot currently show community-corrections probation events after April 21, 2021. Direct office confirmation fills that gap.
Pawnee Release Supervision Paths
KDOC parole and postrelease cases for Pawnee County are served by the Great Bend Parole Office at 1806 12th St., Great Bend, KS 67530, 620-727-6836. Pawnee County Community Corrections is a separate office at 606 Topeka St., Larned, 620-285-3128. Court services probation, community corrections, diversion supervision, parole, and postrelease supervision are not interchangeable. Read the court order and KASPER supervision type before calling.
Leaving prison may begin supervision rather than end the sentence. Pawnee County post-release supervision follows the channel named in the court or KDOC record. A direct confirmation is especially useful when KASPER shows a stale or incomplete community-corrections path. Case-specific reporting directions come from the supervising officer, not a public search screen.
Pawnee Release Reentry Sources
Pawnee County Community Corrections lists local supervision programs, including Adult Felony Diversion Supervision. Larned State Correctional Facility separately lists in-prison work such as Thinking for a Change and risk-and-needs based support. Neither official source promises a universal public intake service after release. A person should use the office named in the court or KDOC record and confirm eligibility with that provider.
The distinction matters in Larned because the county jail and state prison sit in the same community but run under different authorities. A Pawnee jail release does not create KDOC parole. An LSCF release to postrelease supervision does not become a Pawnee County Community Corrections case merely because the prison is in Pawnee County.
Transportation After Pawnee Release
Pawnee County operates a general-public bus through Welcome Inn. The published number is 620-285-3504, with service listed Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The county transportation page does not promise jail pickup, a fixed route, a set fare, weekend trips, or release-specific service. Call ahead and describe the requested trip.
No official Pawnee source verified the jail’s release door, processing hours, waiting area, property-return steps, or weekend practice. Family members should ask the jail for the actual departure point and timing rather than assume that a court order sets the pickup hour. A transfer to another custodian also means there is no local pickup.
Correct Pawnee Release Record Errors
Send corrections to the office that owns the record. A Pawnee County Jail booking or departure error belongs with the sheriff’s records custodian. A case entry belongs with the court clerk and court process. KASPER accepts accuracy comments at kdoc_pub@ks.gov. That state address does not give the sheriff power to alter KDOC data, and it does not promise removal of an accurate historic event.
KASPER also warns that an image’s database date may be the date it was entered, not the date the picture was taken. Match a state image to the KDOC record and do not label it as a Pawnee County booking photograph without proof. Keep copies of the questioned field, source, access date, and any agency response.
Search Both Larned Prison Names
Larned State Correctional Facility was formerly called Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility. KDOC made the name change on April 27, 2023. Older court entries, release records, and news may use LCMHF, while current sources use LSCF. Search the full old and new names, plus both abbreviations, when tracing a state custody episode.
The official LSCF page identifies the prison within KDOC. Larned State Hospital is separate and is not a jail or prison. Hospital patients must not be treated as inmates. A transfer between facilities is also not the same as release to the community.
The official facility source helps resolve the naming issue before a KASPER status or KDOC certificate is matched.
Pawnee Release and Expungement Timing
Physical release and expungement timing are different. Under K.S.A. 21-6614, many eligible waiting periods run from satisfaction of the sentence or discharge from probation, community corrections, parole, postrelease supervision, conditional release, or a suspended sentence. A person can leave jail or prison while supervision continues, so the relevant clock may not have started.
Some categories use longer periods or are not eligible, and current law and forms control. After a court grants expungement, public access is generally restricted subject to statutory exceptions. That can explain why a once-visible court record later disappears. It does not mean the earlier custody event was invented. Do not work around sealed, protected, juvenile, or expunged access limits.
Pawnee Jail Exit May Be Transfer
Pawnee County minutes document times when jail inmates were placed in other counties for security reasons. That local record makes the destination field essential. Someone can leave the Pawnee jail’s physical count and remain incarcerated elsewhere. Ask for the receiving agency or facility, movement time, release type, and any unresolved hold.
If the destination is KDOC, check KASPER after the transfer. If USMS received the person, use the federal court and actual holding-custodian records. A hospital movement requires careful wording and is not proof of community release. The movement transaction, not a missing name, shows which branch applies.
Pawnee Release Alerts and Federal Records
Kansas VINE provides free alerts for adults in participating county jails. Confirm that the matched record names the correct Pawnee reporting agency. VINE does not cover LSCF or other KDOC state-prison residents, juveniles, or federal detainees. An alert may report a custody change quickly, but the jail remains the source for whether that event was community release or transfer.
The official Kansas VINELink search shows the person-search route used for a matched county-jail record.
Open the matched record, choose an offered event and channel, then confirm any alert with the reporting jail.
For a sentenced federal prisoner, the BOP locator may show “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” That statement covers BOP custody only. USMS often manages federal defendants before sentence and may use contract beds. ICE ODLS covers qualifying current detention and keeps released people searchable for only 60 days. No Pawnee federal or ICE detention facility was verified, so use these tools only when a record shows a federal or immigration link.
Compare Pawnee Release Search Sources
The source should match both the custodian and the question. A current-custody check asks where someone is now. A release check asks when one custodian’s control ended, why it ended, and what followed. No single portal covers all Pawnee County released inmates.
| Situation | Primary source | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Pawnee County Jail stay | Sheriff release entry plus court case | Departure time, authority, destination, holds |
| KDOC or LSCF custody | KASPER plus KDOC or PRB record | Inmate, parole, supervision, or discharge status |
| County-jail notification | Matched Kansas VINE record | Reporting facility and event, then jail verification |
| Federal sentenced custody | BOP locator plus federal order | BOP release status and any later custody |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS and actual facility | Release, transfer, or removal as separate events |
| Legal reason for release | Pawnee District Court register | Bond, dismissal, sentence, credit, or discharge |
Note: A no-result can reflect the wrong system, an alias, data timing, access limits, expungement, or a transfer rather than a release.
Pawnee County Release Facilities
Pawnee County Jail is the sheriff-operated county facility at 116 W. 8th St., Larned, 620-285-2211. Its release transaction and the court case confirm a county departure. Larned State Correctional Facility is a KDOC prison at 1318 Kansas Highway 264, Larned, 620-285-6249. KASPER and KDOC records control its state releases, parole movements, and discharges.
These facilities are not one system. The county jail holds people under sheriff and court authority, while LSCF holds state prisoners under KDOC. No separate municipal jail, federal detention center, or ICE contract facility in Pawnee County was verified. Always identify the real custodian before interpreting a release result.
