Releases from Larned State Correctional
LSCF is operated by the Kansas Department of Corrections. It is not Pawnee County Jail. A resident can leave confinement on parole for an older indeterminate sentence, conditional release, postrelease supervision after the prison portion of a determinate sentence, maximum-sentence discharge, transfer, or another authorized movement.
Parole or postrelease supervision means the person has left prison but remains under KDOC authority. Discharge is a later and different endpoint. A transfer means custody continues at another institution. Read status, movement, sentence dates, and the official certificate together.
Confirm an LSCF Release
KASPER, the Kansas Adult Supervised Population Electronic Repository, is the public starting point. Search by KDOC number when possible because it is more precise than name alone.

An Inmate status means current KDOC custody. Parole means release from prison with supervision. Community Corr. is distinct from parole and has a public-data gap after April 21, 2021. Discharged is the closest listed status to an ended state-system episode, but the record controls.

Read LSCF Status and Dates
Kansas official sources use several dates that must not be collapsed into one “release date.” Parole eligibility allows consideration. Conditional release is a statutory point for some indeterminate sentences. Guidelines or calculated release can change. Maximum or discharge marks a different endpoint from leaving prison for supervision.

About Larned State Correctional
The official LSCF overview describes a 310-bed medium-security Central Unit and a 304-bed minimum-security South Unit. These are capacity figures, not release totals. Residents are sentenced state prisoners under KDOC, not county-jail detainees.

LSCF is separate from Larned State Hospital. Hospital patients must not be described as inmates. Although the prison developed on state-hospital grounds, it is its own corrections institution with distinct custody records.
Search Both LSCF Names
KDOC renamed the institution from Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility to Larned State Correctional Facility on April 27, 2023. The official history traces its 1991 construction and January 22, 1992 opening. Older cases, movements, news reports, and records may use LCMHF.
Search “Larned State Correctional Facility,” “Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility,” LSCF, and LCMHF when reconciling history. The name change does not create a new custody episode. Match the KDOC number, movement dates, and sentence record.
LSCF Release Versus Transfer
A movement out of LSCF may lead to another KDOC prison, a hospital placement, court transport, or another authorized destination. None should be reported as community release unless the movement and status support that conclusion. KASPER’s Inmate status can remain in place after a facility change.

LSCF Reentry Programs and Release
The LSCF programs page documents Thinking for a Change and risk- and need-based support. These in-facility programs may prepare residents for lawful transition. The source does not promise a universal public post-release intake service or guarantee placement after release.
Confirm supervision and reporting instructions through KDOC and the assigned office. Community Corrections in Pawnee County is a separate local channel for applicable court-ordered cases, not a substitute for KDOC parole. KASPER’s community-corrections data gap makes direct office confirmation necessary for recent probation events.
Get an LSCF Release Record
For a specific state discharge, provide the KDOC number and ask for the release or discharge certificate or existing public movement record. Identify the facility, approximate date, and fields needed. For a Prisoner Review Board outcome, give the hearing month and KDOC number. Request existing records rather than asking staff to calculate a new narrative.

LSCF Supervision After Release
Leaving LSCF can begin a supervised phase rather than end the sentence. Parole applies to an indeterminate sentence and follows Prisoner Review Board conditions. Postrelease supervision follows the prison part of a determinate guidelines sentence. Community corrections is a separate court-linked structure and should not be called parole.
KASPER may display Parole, Community Corr., Absconder, Discharged, or another status. Absconder means the system reports alleged avoidance of supervision. It is not, by itself, a verified warrant and must not be treated as authority for action. Confirm current status with KDOC Parole Services or the appropriate community-corrections office.
Supervision can later end by discharge, while a violation can create a new custody episode. Keep the prison release date, supervision start, later revocation, and final discharge separate. One date cannot accurately stand for all of those events.
LSCF Parole Decision Records
For an indeterminate sentence, parole eligibility allows consideration but does not guarantee release. The Kansas Prisoner Review Board can parole, continue, or pass a matter. A Continue outcome sets later consideration. A Pass can impose a period or stated conditions before another review. Use the actual Board record rather than predicting the result from eligibility alone.
Public comment calendars and current offender lists are organized by hearing cycle. They are not a permanent name-searchable outcomes archive. When requesting a decision, provide the KDOC number and hearing month. The county shown in a Board list can be conviction county and should not be assumed to be the person’s present home or release destination.
For supervision after release, the Great Bend Parole Office serves Pawnee. Pawnee County Community Corrections at 606 Topeka Street is a different channel for applicable court cases. Direct agency confirmation is necessary because KASPER cannot display recent community-corrections probation events completely.
LSCF Sentence Date Changes
Good-time shorthand must be used carefully. Kansas categories with a maximum 15 percent credit can produce an 85 percent figure only when the rule applies and credit is earned and retained. Qualifying lower-severity categories may allow 20 percent. Life, off-grid, indeterminate, and older offense-date terms require other provisions.
Jail credit, earned credit, forfeiture, restored credit, consecutive sentences, and amended journal entries can change the current computation. A detainer may also change where the person goes after leaving LSCF. Release from the prison gate can therefore begin supervision or continued custody elsewhere rather than final discharge.
Read the exact KASPER date label and preserve the viewing date. The repository updates each working day. When a current calculation matters, confirm it with KDOC and the controlling court record instead of applying a public arithmetic formula.
Request LSCF Movement Records
Identify the KDOC number, facility, custody period, and exact fields. Ask for the existing movement record, release or discharge certificate, and destination where public. For a Board outcome, identify the hearing month. A narrow request is less likely to sweep in unrelated protected material.
Keep any response and statutory citation. If data appears inaccurate, send the precise correction to KDOC’s published KASPER contact. The facility cannot change a sheriff booking record, and the sheriff cannot revise a KDOC movement. Route each correction to the office that owns the record.
